Wyze Cameras are fantastic. They are cheap. Small. Low power . Great video quality. However, there was always a catch ... not designed for outdoor use. That has now changed.
Can Wyze cameras be used outdoors? Now they can!
We unbox the Wyze Cam Outdoor and walk you through the initial setup which only takes a few minutes to setup!

@BeforeYouBuy Thank you too. I was so hopeful when I got it. I'm wondering if it ,possibly, being refurbished is the reason. I only know the listing said amazon certified. Right now ,after I recharged, by end of that day,it is dead. Vision is pitch dark at night.

@BeforeYouBuy I'm hoping this was just because it was "Amazon certified." I payed nearly $52. I charged it to 100 percent. Box ,charger, everything appeared new. It was just on, not recording, at times,I revisited app to get familiar with features. By the evening , It was down to 30%. I turned off the camera maybe 2 or 3 times to save battery. This morning ,I took it in to charge. So not quite 24 hours, this camera will need charging.

Really? After a full charge? Does it still hold a charge? How much movement do you have?

Does the camera come with a SIM card? Or do you have to purchase separately?

No SIM but microSD card slot I think you’re referring too. You have to buy a card for it

My battery runs down everyday. I have to charge it everyday. Any advice. Maybe I have something on a bad setting.

Oh wow. Is it constantly recording? Tons of movement? Sensitivity set to high? Even it recording 24/7 I would think it would last a few days

Couple questions - 1. Can i add multiple Wyze cameras to the 1 base station, or does each camera come with it's own base station? 2. Can i see all my cameras on the app, or would I have to open an app per camera installed?
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy Month ago
Yes, you can connect up to 4 cameras to the single base station. All the cameras show up in your Normal camera feed as expected 👍

does this thing work with 5G connectivity on your phone? That's the One Thing I was looking to find out!

You can load the app over mobile data. Is that your question?

Hi pre-ordered my outdoor camera in November and it never arrived. When I called to inquire they said they couldn’t send me a camera and instead posted a credit on my credit card. I’m disappointed.

My only concern is the base connection. My router isn't in my house because I have acreage and need connectivity over a larger area. How far away can the cameras be from the base?

@BeforeYouBuy thanks for answering, my gut says v3...but I do like the wireless
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 2 months ago
Like all things wireless it just depends. It mostly depends on what’s in the way or between the two items. Princetons mostly open backyard it would easily reach. Clean from the basement to a couple floors up you would have a weak signal. It does use 2.4Ghz which will give it a strong signal through things, but I have had no problems with the receiver in the basement and the camera at the front door. I’ve tried opposite corners of my house it starts to get pretty weak signal

Thanks for the video! One or two questions: Why does the outdoor wyze cam need a base station and a connection to my router? All 5 wyze2 cams I had over the last 2 years require just my home wifi signal. Or is connecting the base station to the router only needed for setting up the outdoor wyze cam? How far away can the base station be from the camera? Thanks for any help!

@BeforeYouBuy Just got the cam and the basestation hooked up. (took 10 min) I didn't connect the base station directly into the router but instead into an Ethernet hub and this works great too. Thanks again for your very informative video :-)
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 3 months ago
It’s a wireless signal to the base station, so it’s variable for distance and what’s in the way. Similar to your wireless cameras
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 3 months ago
To be honest, I do not fully understand why they need the base station. I’m sure there’s a reason. One thing I like is you can backup the camera cards to the base station if it gets stolen, broken, etc so I do like that part

Wyze makes some pretty good stuff, and once you factor in the price its a steal. Iv had 2 cam v2s as a outside cams for about 6 months now and i have had zero issue with them

I can’t believe how cheap some of their stuff is. It’s never super premium product, but always good enough to great products. Totally agree on pricing, once you throw that in it’s insane

We are having trouble setting up:we successfully set up our base station and paired the camera that came with it. BUT another 2 cameras, pairing - keep failing? The original camera also says offline now. Do we have to re-sync or can we just turn it on again? How?
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 3 months ago
@Sara Osborne yes, it should say connected to Ethernet
Sara Osborne
Sara Osborne 3 months ago
@BeforeYouBuy just tried rebooting the router. It also says connected by Ethernet (is that correct?)
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 3 months ago
Hmm. Good question. I’m not sure. It’s never a bad idea to reset it all. Just to make sure the base station is still plugged into the network right?
Sara Osborne
Sara Osborne 3 months ago
In order to recharge the camera batteries - do you have to remove the camera from its outdoor location and bring it inside to plug in
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 3 months ago
Yes. It’s magnetic to the mount so it’s not hard ... unless in an inconvenient spot. Or you could bring out an extension cord for a few hours I suppose

On a single charge, yes. It really depends on how often it is recording movement

I am considering buying this camera but I only have a small wifi box that you recharge, will this work or do I have to have a router to connect?
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 4 months ago
You do have to plug in the base station into a network port

2 Questions: do I need a home wifi connection to SET THIS up? I know it isn't necessary while the camera is working but someones review mentioned that I need to hook the base station up to a router. We don't have a home base, live in our 5th wheel trailer fulltime and move around. Also: is there a 30 to 40 second notification delay from camera to my phone? Another reviewer pointed this out. By the way, I enjoyed your review.
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 4 months ago
You may need to have internet for setup. To activate on your account but then you could change to offline mode. There is a delay. I’ve noticed it’s never consistent but I’ve actually lately noticed it’s closer to 5 seconds at most. Maybe less. I believe a recent update fixed that.

Do you have to have the sd card before any recording can be done and also will it notify you at all without a sd card ? I have my notifications on and when it detects motion I haven’t received anything yet. Thanks for any feedback
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 4 months ago
It can not record anything without the SD card. They have zero internal memory. That's a great question. I'm not positive on that. I believe I was getting notifications before I installed a card however. Make sure your phone is also allowing the notifications to come through.

During my firmware update, I ran to BestBUy for some microSDcards...I obviously took my phone so I must of interrupted the firmware update....now it is solid yellow and Have tried every possible reset option...un plugging for several hours, using clip to push reset button...nothing...stuck on solid yellow...do you or does anyone have a fix for this??
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 5 months ago
@D Jones Bummer. I ran into something similar. One of our cameras lost power during a firmware update. We can't do anything with it and support pretty much said the same thing. I never thought about your phone moving away during firmware updates. In fact, now that I think of that, I sometimes update my cameras remotely. From my house, I update cameras at another place. So distance shouldn't really matter and I know I've closed the app before updating. Hmm

@BeforeYouBuy ...ya I did. They stumped too. New base station on the way.

Uh oh. You usually don’t ever want to interrupt firmware updates. You may want to reach out to support 🤞

Joffre Lopez same thing happened to me - just read the card should have a max 32MB any bigger will impair the functionality

Maybe try it in another camera and see if that recognizes it? Does your computer recognize it? Maybe it’s a strange formatting issue? How big is the card?

I have one it straight up sucks. The battery last approximately 1 month with a 5 minute cool down after each recording. I could go on and on . I use the original with covers outside they're much better.
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 6 months ago
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I personally love it so far. I haven't tried a cover for an original one. My big issue is getting power to locations. My is lasting about 7 weeks from what I can tell. That's totally acceptable for my use case, because it's a much bigger pain to get power somewhere.
