Wyze Cam V3 vs Wyze Cam V2 - Comparing Features, Video & Audio Quality

Today, we are going to compare the new Wyze Cam version 3 to the older version 2. We will compare its features and see what is added to the new version and also what is missing. We will then compared the video and audio quality day and night (mostly indoors).
I will also be showing how you can set up either the Wyze Cam V3 or the Wyze Cam V2 to look through a window glass just using the included metal disk mount and we will check the video quality both in daytime and at night and see if there will be a lot of glare.
I will also be showing how the wyze cameras perform with Wyze's Cam Plus subscription which I have a added and set these cameras.
Please note that both of these cameras were sent by Wyze for me to do a comparison video. Thank You Wyze.

Same fee. Both cameras have a micro SD card slot though which it will still record motion events without needing a subscription.

Would love to see a comparison between wyzecam v3 and a cheap high bitrate cctv 2-8mp cctv camera recording to a NAS. Wondering if the later is worth the headache and how the low light performance compares. Granted, in bright light it would be no contents but is the wyze v3 good enough?

I see that you placed your camera for indoor viewing only. What if when the burglar or burglars or someone came in and grab your indoor cameras, and where do you place them? is it anchored down by screws? even screws are viable for unscrewss, anyway, that's what happened to my front door, when they picked the key hole of a sleigh key way. well, do you have any suggestions on that? my ring door bell 2 has no problem with those burglars, it just won't see them or whatever!!! ever!!???? WELL, outside cameras should have real time notification and mostly immediate to catch the thefves. I love your reviews.

Will Wyze work in the Philippines with it’s really slow internet? What do you recommend to set-up a basic smart home with slow wifi using a few security cameras (indoor & outdoor), smart switches and a smart deadbolt to begin with, Google or Amazon? What router is recommended? BTW it’s 220V in the Philippines. Would really appreciate any input you can share. Thank you.

Its always interesting watching your videos. I appreciate the amount of time and detail you put into this. I encourage everyone watching to go back to your earlier videos and you will notice a progression in technology. Wyze took a big step and I suspect that the other camera companies will too. So far you have inspired me to buy a Reolink Eco, Ezviz doorbell, and 2 Ezviz C1Cs that are used from inside my windows looking out. I mounted each of the C1Cs inside of a small box to eliminate my indoor lights reflecting back into the camera at night. Each camera has their pro and cons and I really appreciate that you try to show them. Thanks again!

while starlight feature is really cool the example you showed when you were in your house with the lights off. Just your range lights on dies make things brighter it doesn't necessarily make things clearer. I could not make your face out at all in the house with it enabled it also heavily pixelates the picture which is expected. But for outdoor use with minimal lights it would be a viable option.

I have 3 pairs of V2 cameras on the a couple corners of my house and on my front porch, each are powered by a daisy chain of the USB, so just 3 USB connections powering 6 cameras. That's the one big thing I'd miss in the V3 cameras. I'm surer I could find a way to right something up, but it is a hinderance with the V3's that would have to be overcome.

On my V2 I don't have the grid pattern, never had it. It's just like the V3 with one box. The problem with paying for a subscription with Wyze is that they are comparing themselves to Ring, which they're not even close. Their person detect is not that great and it's bad enough you want me to pay for it, you also want me to send in video to help improve it. If it was still free like they originally promised I would help. The new V3 has improved but the notifications are still atrocious. It's a great system for me to have for monitoring but If my priority was for notifications I would have to buy ring.

Convert Wyze cam to POE only by using a combination of USB and power connector sharing the ground. Here is a challenge for you I already know how to do POE see what you can do with this question. I would like to keep my wise cam but they interfere with my Wi-Fi and they cause it constantly drop so I want to switch them to Poe. I already know about the adapters from 48 V from a POE switch to 5 V I wanna open the unit up and physically converted to a network camera. And physically disconnect any of the Wi-Fi capability because it constantly crashes my net work.

It appears you made an error in your video. You state that V2 has the selectable motion detection squares while V3 has only the standard single detection box. The selectable motion detection squares however are not yet available for either camera in the general release version yet, only the beta has it as of today. This might cause some confusion for your viewers. Good job otherwise as usual.

Man, Thanks a lot of hard work. I have about 10 of the V2 regular and pan cameras and they are flawless. Got to get a couple of these and maybe look at the battery model. These people are genuinely geniuses. When WYZE goes public they are going to be filthy rich and should. Peace Out and again Thanks...
Greg Johnson
Greg Johnson 2 months ago
I have 8 of the v2s, but they are far from flawless. They are $25 cameras though, and for that price, they're decent. The video quality is acceptable in most settings, but it is _very_ flawed. They also have absolutely awful WiFi. Using the app is fine, but you cannot capture more than 3 or 4 RTSP streams simultaneously over the same network. I have tried everything and my network rivals a medium-sized business. Honestly, for $200 I think 8 of them is an okay deal but ultimately disappointing. Lastly, I have Deep Packet Inspection enabled for all Wyze cameras and they send questionable packets to questionable services, namely Chinese chat services. The MACs also randomly change on reboot in some of the ones that I have which is suspect.

I read that the starlight sensor basically just decreases the shutter speed of the lense, so that what little light there is can be absorbed over time. Something like that. Which is why you see a lot of ghosting when the speed is decreased. I gave that a try on an old canon camera of mine, and it seemed to pick up objects at night better, but just a little. I'm guessing a DLR, or SLR whatever the newer camera type is, would do better.

You have to turn off night vision when you set up a camera through a glass window.
Chad Pollman
Chad Pollman 5 months ago
Night vision would be grayscale, so must’ve been off for the color shots. With v2, you can disable the IR LEDs in the settings and still use night vision mode, which can be useful when IR reflections would be an issue (e.g. window glass). I’d assume v3 has that option as well, though I can’t confirm.

A wonderful report because you are a wonderful person. I have a question. Is the sense of sound detection the same feature in the Arloa Pro 2 camera. It is a wonderful feature as it detects sound without any movement and is useful when there is an explosion sound or the like

My ver. 3 - I just got - recorded my dog barking in the middle of the night.

Yes it is the same as the Arlo Pro2..it listens for loud sounds and also the siren patterns of your smoke and CO monoxide alarms.

I put a sd card in my v2 today and it says there is no sd card in the camera, my question is how do I eject the sd card
47refugee
47refugee 5 months ago
@KnightOf LightOfficial your nails or a credit card or anything thin enough to press the card in. Press until you hear it eject.
KnightOf LightOfficial
KnightOf LightOfficial 5 months ago
@47refugee It's not visible, What do I use to push it in?
47refugee
47refugee 5 months ago
You push inwards on the sd card and it will pop out. You'll hear a click.

Wow...the V3 is really clear for the night recording. I under estimated it. Definitely worth the money. Great video 👌.

@SaucyX4 • it's up to you, but not everybody has the option to go unlimited and the video compression might not be the best.

@T. P ohhh like that. So a switch to unlimited data would be a good fix

@SaucyX4 • you have to think about how these cloud cameras work, them think about your internet provider's data cap. You'd probably hit your limit in no time

@T. P I stream 4k videos all the time no problem I assumed my WiFi would be able to handle it no?

@SaucyX4 • streaming/recording 4k over wifi? Not worth it. Go wired for that. Worth it.

How long does it recording without the subscription with only the SD card ?
sumerlady
sumerlady 3 months ago
@Johnny Mar depends on how it is formatted. Look on the blog and Wyze doesn't seem to really support larger than a 32 SD but it could probably be done.

@Johnny Mar IIRC, supporting the exFAT file system requires a license (and, of course, fee). Low-margin products thus have a powerful incentive to support only FAT32, which I believe _officially_ supports up to 32GB. That said, I’ve seen 64GB cards (and maybe even higher) factory formatted as FAT32, so apparently it is doable. I haven’t tested the v2 cam to see whether its built-in formatting utility can handle a >32GB card. To the best of my knowledge, Windows itself only offers exFAT for capacities that exceed the official FAT32 specification. Perhaps there are third-party utilities that can do the job. That, or you just have to trust your luck with the factory format and hope it doesn’t get corrupted in a way that requires reformatting the card.

@LifeHackster i wonder why they limit it to only 32? i would be happy to stick a 128gb card in them :)

Thanks for providing this comparison video, I always check out your videos, especially when it comes to Wyze. I noticed that you stated that the V2 camera has a grid pattern for motion detection but I have multiple V2 cameras that I’ve bought over a two year period and they all have the rectangular box for motion detection.

How is the motion sensor? Is the Ai is there? Or do you have to pay for Ai?

Motion detection accuracy is pretty good for person detection. It is just a bit slow in notifications. Person detection is part of the Cam Plus subscription.

@Fauras S No but without cam plus you get a ton of false notifications like headlights bouncing off of cars, etc.
