I believe you would need it to setup - it might be able over bluetooth - but you can operate with the turn dial as well. Not wireless needed.

This is very helpful. However, I don't understand the Auto. Will it switch from Heat to Cool if the temperature outside heats up from a night time in the 50s to 70s during the day?
BeforeYouBuy

Auto allows you to have a high and low temp said that it keeps it between from my understanding.

Do you have to use the white plate behind the thermostat?

@beforeyoubuy Can you talk about the fan control? I use my current Nest allows me to only run the fan on a schedule during the night which i love. Can you do the same with the wyze? or is it only a set amount of time per hour 24 hrs per day?
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 2 months ago
That’s a great question and point. I do that with my Nest thermostats at the gym I work at. You cannot do that on Nest. If you choose Cycle mode then it’s how many minutes per hour. You cannot schedule that. The good news is there’s just a software change hopefully down the road. I’m guessing in the next year or two they’ll have a ton more features

Hey buddy, I’m having issues with the thermostat overnight, the current temperature is inconsistent and changes for example from 62 to 65/66within seconds and it’s triggering my furnace every 5 mins which is set to cooling at 64, it’s very frustrating, I have my old thermostat and it’s sensor is showing a consistent temperature
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 2 months ago
Correct. We had a non-programmable thermostat before and it seems the same

@BeforeYouBuy thanks for replying, just curious, your Wyze thermostat is working normally as expected? no issues or strange behaviors that you have seen?

Still can't get mine installed. Support is a nightmare. I have to get expert help or continue 'at my own risk'. Not what they sold. They sold 20 minute installs anyone could do. Once they have your money, it becomes professionals required or risk your home. Fraud!

I have a dual fuel heat pump/gas furnace. I installed it and could not find how to set the balance point (temp. where the heat pump stops and gas furnace takes over) . The only way I could find to contact customer service was by email. We installed it on Dec. 23 and I emailed them for help. When I looked it was trying to use the heat pump when the outside temp was 13F. The air handler ran and ran trying to heat the house. Sometimes the gas furnace would come on. I emailed customer support again. After about 3 days the air handler motor went out. I then get a reply from customer service that did not answer my question. I asked again how to set the balance point and still no answer. I finally emailed for a return. They sent me a prepaid label and I returned it and they got it. It has been one month today and still no refund. I'm out $50 for the thermostat and $110 for the motor (I installed). I could have almost bought a Nest thermostat and the instructions tell how to set balance point.

I suppose it depends on your setup. That sucks though! It is a brand new & complicated product. Hopefully you can get it figured out. Have you reached out in the forums?

I am having issue with setting the schedule . I set it up to be Out at 8 am, Home by 6 pm and Sleep at 11.30. Both thermostats follow the Home and Sleep time block but ignore Out. What could be amiss ?
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 2 months ago
It’s not changing over at all? Maybe double check the times to see if there is overlap or AM/PM is right?

Great video, are your times when the heat kicks on accurate. I just got mine today and was wondering that. I had some issues installing mine but have them sorted thanks to the people in the wyze forum. What a great resource. My issues were the heat and air were turning on at the same time. I found that when installing the C adapter I had two wires on the Y in the furnace panel and only one of them was supposed to go to the c adapter, not both. My red one that came from my air conditioner needed to stay on the furnace panel in the Y spot. Also, I found my temperature sensor was off by 4 degrees. Luckily wyze has a way to calibrate this in the app settings and that fixed it. And last but not least Wyze needs to change the schedule to allow for a Heat schedule and a Cool schedule. Having only an auto-schedule where the heat and cool temperature have to be separated by 5 degrees is just useless. If you want to have an auto mode 90% of us can't use you have to add a heat and cool schedule that is separate. As it is now I have to reset my heat and cool schedule every season. Even my 20-year-old thermostat had more functionality than that. At least on that old thing, I could just flip the switch to cool or heat for the season and it was programmed into it.
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 2 months ago
Some good insight here. The nice thing is the things you mention could easily be fixed by software. It’s brand new and I know they are getting a lot of feedback... or at least I’m seeing it! Ha! I love that they continually update their software and give features. You should still be able to flip the virtual switch from heat to cool right? I honestly never thought about having heat/cool temps so close. Maybe because of where I live ... or is it because I’m cheap?! Good work on fixing it the wiring issue. So you had to plug in both wires into the C adapter? The AC wasn’t already going to C on the furnace board?

Wade Dillworth

Good video! Do people really set rules and schedules for their thermostat? Wouldn't it be more costly raising and lowering the temp all the time? Everytime your house changes temp, the ac/heat has to cool or heat the house again. Why not set a temp and leave it. Regardless if you're home or not, having to make your unit heat or cool is harder on your system than just leaving it alone.
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 3 months ago
I’ve always wondered the same. I’ve heard it’s not really worth changing the temp unless it’s for 8 hours plus.

Your home and away schedules?
Bruce Malloy
Bruce Malloy 3 months ago
I found that using the Auto mode may interfer with manually changing the temp at the device. I couldn't increase the Heat temp beyond the preset temp. After changing the mode from Auto to Heat the temp could be increased. Apparently the preset temps for heat and cool were set too close to each other, which prevented the increasing of the heat temp. I still don't understand the Away state and how it works in relation to the Home/Sleep states. What automatically activates and deactivates the Away? How does the motion sensor change the setting from or to the Away state. And does the location of the phone change the state? I'll also post this on the Wyze forum for comments.
Bruce Malloy
Bruce Malloy 3 months ago
@ts_kids ive tried this to see if it changed thecsetting from Home to Away and vice versa. Did not work but did change from Away to Home while I was away. Hope it doesn't change by the location of a phone, since my wife and I both have the App on our phones. Which phone would it use? Wyze needs to develop a definitive guide to the programming. We shouldn't have to figure it out by trail and error.

The app uses your phone GPS to determine if you are home or away.

Great video! Wyze really should give detailed operating instructions. The temperature preferences language is confusing. When I select the “Above” and “Below” settings what exactly does that mean? For example on my Home settings when I select the values for “Heat to” and “Cool to” what does it mean? Right now its set to Heat to 68 and Cool to 76; does that mean the heat will kick in when the temperature reaches 68 degrees and the AC/Cooling will kick in when the temperature reaches 76 degrees? Also, How do I set a simple Auto setting for temperature? Ex: If I want it to maintain a stable temperature of 74?
John Ricci
John Ricci 2 months ago
I think you are confused. The heat will only come on when the temp is below 68 degrees and then it will heat to 68. The cold will only come on when the temp is above 76 and then it will cool to 76. Hope that helps. You probably already figured that out though.
BeforeYouBuy
BeforeYouBuy 3 months ago
Thanks! Yes, as far as I can tell, that’s what that means when set to Auto at least. If set to Heat , then it’s only the heat part. I believe the temps for heat and cool have to be at least 5 degrees apart otherwise the heat it warm it up then the AC would kick in... then heat again and will constantly cycle

I love my WYZE thermostat. . . I am using the C-wire adapter with no issues. . . I had an Ecobee that failed and there are only one/ a few current feature/s I miss..... Solid B for an early release at this price point with even more promise if they continue to work on features/firmware!
BeforeYouBuy

Agreed. Wyze seems to really focus on disruptive pricing and value. Sometimes it’s not perfectly polished but still worth it in my opinion
Bruce Malloy

I'm currently on a short vacation from home, therefore I set the thermostat to Away. I've checked the system a few times via the app and have found it reset to Home. No one is at home to activate the motion sensor, which would reset it to Home (I think). And I understand the location of my phone away from my home will set it to Away (which will upset my wife if she is still at home. Can this be turned off?). Last night I set the system to Hold instead of Away and this seems to be working to keep the system (heat) from coming on until it reaches the set temp. I'm still a bit confused on how the system works in relation to the settings of Home, Away and Sleep. It's not as intuitive as it appears. Wyze needs to come out with a definitive guide to the complete programming via the App and actual device (thermostat) and the relationship between both. Overall this is a great device and I'll appreciate it more when I completely understand it.

Bruce Malloy
Bruce Malloy 3 months ago
@BeforeYouBuy Thanks for this professional video, you covered most of the features, which is what I expected from Wyze. Our thermostat doesn't face a window or anything else that could trigger the motion sensor. I'll be testing it and the other features when I return home in a couple of days. Hopefully Wyze will develop an instructional video covering all the features and programming. I'll also be looking forward to your future videos.

a pet , shadow, or even the sunlight threw off my Ecobee so that is why I always used the hold feature and/or a vacation feature. . . just so you know that even the more expensive units got tricked with this from time to time. . .

If it’s in auto and you set heat to 68 and cool to 72 the heat will only come on when the temp drops below 68 and it will heat to 68. If the temp goes above 72 the cool will turn on and bring it down to 72.
